NOVEMBER 4, 2022  – Mental Health Day, event recording

Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of the provincial Mental Health Act within it’s historical context, and how to appropriately use select certificates within. (Medical Expert, Health Advocate, Professional)
  • Review how primary psychosis and substance-induced-psychosis differ in prognoses and treatment recommendations for each. (Medical Expert, Scholar)
  • Familiarize participants with early signs of dementia, and the principles of management (including when to refer and potential places to refer). (Medical Expert, Health Advocate)
  • Understand the concepts behind Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and describe some of the tools used to reduce unhelpful patterns of thinking in stressful situations. (Medical Expert, Communicator, Collaborator)
  • Describe certain techniques used in the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy process and how to refer when necessary. (Medical Expert, Communicator, Collaborator, Scholar)
