Conservative Cast Gold Restorations: A Hands-On Learning Experience
Conservative Cast Gold Restorations: A Hands-On Learning Experience
March 1, 2025
9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Description
With the competing priority of educating dentists in new and emerging technologies, the
concepts and techniques for preparation and placement of conservative cast gold restorations
has become a dying art. Gold restorations are beautiful, enduring and increasingly sought after
by discriminating patients.
This comprehensive course includes both lecture and clinical hands-on training components in
the preparation and placement of conservative cast gold restorations. These concepts were
developed and refined by Dr. R.V. Tucker and are followed by Academy Study Clubs
throughout the world.
Part 1 offers a two day intensive workshop with a lecture and laboratory hands-on component.
The lectures will address the advantages and disadvantages of cast gold, the restorative life
cycle, biodegradation of composite restorative materials and why, where and how conservative
casting should be prescribed. During the laboratory component, participants will prepare, waxup,
cement, fininsh and polish a conservative cast gold restoration on manikins in the College
of Dentistry’s main clinic. Over the shoulder guidence will be provided to assist in applying the
principles and techniques taught in the preliminary workshop. In addition, the use of digital
scanning for gold casting restorations will be demonstrated.
16 hours of CDE credit (to include 2 hours of course pre-reading)
Additional Optional Program:
Part 2 offers a two day Clinical Hands-On experience.
During this two day program, participants will advance their clinical operative skills by working
on their individual patient cases. The lecture portion will share case studies, while during the
operative portion for participants, over the shoulder guidance will be available for the
preparation and cementation of their restorations.
Those particiapting in this comprehensive course will understand the foundational operative
