Description:

Presentations can be daunting for even the most seasoned presenters. Apart from potential stage fright, researchers are often restricted to short time frames to showcase large amounts of work and knowledge. In this workshop, we will review the purpose of presentations, the basic structure of presentations, and start developing more engaged presentations based on participants’ own work. The focus of the workshop will be on oral conference presentations, but discussion will also apply to other types of presentations. Participants are encouraged to come with an idea for an upcoming presentation, but it is not required.

Learning Objectives:

As a result of participating in this workshop, participants will be able to

  • describe the purpose of research presentations,
  • transform research findings into an engaging presentation, and
  • develop visual resources (e.g., PowerPoint) that facilitate the presentation.
