Incorporating Active Learning in Your Classroom (In Person and Webinar) – January 28, 2020
Description:
Active learning is a broad term representing various ways that instructors can enhance student learning by making students active participants in their own learning. In health professions education, active learning is valued, as it can facilitate the development of important skills, such as team work, critical thinking/clinical reasoning, and communication. In this workshop, we’ll focus on active learning strategies that instructors can use in the classroom.
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to
- discuss the key features of effective active learning strategies,
- describe active learning strategies that can be used in a classroom, and
- prepare an active learning activity for a personal teaching session.
For a discussion of active learning to use in small groups, please consider our ‘Developing your Small Group Tutorial’ and ‘Fostering Discussion and Engagement’ workshops (Small Group Teaching Series) which will focus on active learning in small groups.
