Dental-Dedicated MRI: From Theory to Practice

December 7, 2024          9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Livestream Online Only)

Description

This course is designed to introduce dental-dedicated MRI to its participants. It will be both a primer and workshop focusing on a basic review of MRI physics and applications curated from the existing literature, followed by review of anatomy. The anatomical review will compare the appearance of anatomical landmarks in MRI to those seen in 2D and 3D X-ray based imaging. The remainder of the course will focus on case presentations comparing intraoral, panoramic, and CBCT results to dental specific MRI elucidating differences in resulting images.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, the participant will be able to:

1. Discuss the basic physics and sequences, including acquisition types used in MRI

2. List safety concerns with MRI

3. List potential applications of dental dedicated MRI

4. Recognize anatomic features seen on panoramic radiographs and CBCT in dental dedicated MRI images

5. Discuss the difference between 3D and 2D MRI acquisition and implications for image quality

6.  Discuss the viability and role of dental dedicated MRI for the practice of dentistry

Speaker

Dr. Rubens Spin-Neto   DDS, PhD, dr. odont.

Rubens Spin-Neto received a PhD in Periodontology, São Paulo State University – UNESP, in 2011, and a second PhD degree in Oral Radiology, Aarhus University – Denmark, in 2015.
