What is ACoRN?

The Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns Program (ACoRN) is a Canadian Program designed to teach neonatal stabilization, support the multidisciplinary team, and identify and care for babies who become unwell or are at risk of becoming unwell in the first few hours or days after birth and, where necessary, preparation for transport to a referral facility

ACoRN introduces knowledge and skills sequentially, using a case-based approach.  It is designed to be useful regardless of a condition’s complexity or how frequently a practitioner is called upon to manage specific conditions.

Program overview

Participants must complete the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) course at a provider level before taking this course. 

ACoRN uses a logical and systematic approach, as well as innovative learning tools and decision-making algorithms to:

  • Gather and organize information
  • Establish priorities
  • Intervene appropriately

Course Cost: $300.00

As Per CPD Medicine policy, the department requires any refund or cancelation request to be submitted in writing up to fourteen (14) days prior to the program or session start date . A $50 administrative fee will be withheld to cover transaction and administrative costs. Refund or cancelation requests made less than fourteen (14) days notice may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  1. The ACoRN Textbook and ACoRN Online Exam
  2. Interactive workshop and ACoRN Essential Guide
  3. Evaluation:  Learners, organization, clinical outcomes.
  4. National and regional approach.

The ACoRN workshop is an interactive session that utilizes a skill-based, tool-based, case-based approach to learning. Simulations are an integral component of the workshop.

Preparation for the Workshop:

 

The ACoRN Textbook, 2nd Edition A resource and learning tool for health care professionals (recommended but not mandatory).  No need to memorize.

 

 

ACoRN Essential Guide (for providers) Must bring to the workshop
A learning tool for ACoRN providers and a companion guide to the ACoRN Textbook.

ACoRN Online Exam To be completed prior to participating in an ACoRN course.
