Grand Rounds: Advancing Equity for Learners and Patients with Visiting Professor Dr. Jerry Maniate – April 9, 2024
Sponsored by the Office of Innovation and Scholarship in Medical Education, and the Office of Equity, Access, and Participation
There is growing data that supports what many marginalized and equity-deserving groups have experienced in our health system. The care, experiences, and outcomes they have are decreased compared to groups of higher power and privilege in our societies. This also parallels the challenging and even harrowing experience of EDGs in our health professions education system. What levers can we utilize in our health professions education system to make a difference for both learners and patients? In this session we will explore how we can use the evidence on health equity to help us do better for the communities we serve through a refocused approach in our health professions education system.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe the benefits of diversity in the health system.
- Create inclusive and accountable spaces for learning.
- Train learners to understand and address inequities that they identify in the health system.
