This is a 1.5-day course with mandatory attendance on both days and completion of a pre-test.

July 29, 4:00 pm - 8:30 pm & July 30, 7:30 am - 5:30 pm

A systematic and consistent approach is essential for the effective assessment and resuscitation of a traumatized patient. ATLS® uses the “ABCDE” approach to define an orderly progression of evaluation and intervention.

Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

  • Demonstrate concepts and principles of primary and secondary assessment.
  • Establish management priorities, treating the greatest threat to life first.
  • Initiate resuscitative measures needed for the emergent care of life-threatening and potentially life-threatening injuries.
  • Demonstrate the practical skills used in the initial assessment and management of patients with multiple injuries.

The course consists of the following:

  • Pre-course Test – completed online prior to the course.
  • Interactive Discussions of Core Content.
  • Practical Skill Stations.
  • Triage Scenarios.
  • Initial Assessment and Management Skill Stations (simulated patients).
  • Post-course Test.

Successful completion of the course requires full attendance, passing grades in the skill stations and IA station and a post course test mark of 75% or higher. A verification card indicating successful completion of the course will be issued.

VERIFICATION IN ATLS®:

The card verifying successful completion of the ATLS® course is valid for 4 years from the date of issue. Registrants will need to retake the course every 4 years to maintain their ATLS® verification status.

Cancellation/Date Changes and Refund Policy: The CCA – University of Manitoba has the right to cancel or reschedule course dates due to circumstances beyond our control. Cancellation or date changes by students may occur up to 21 days before day one of the course with a $200 penalty. Cancellation or date changes after 21 days or no shows are not refundable. Cancellations and date changes due to illness or medical emergency will be considered on case-to-case basis.
