Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia Course

Sign up for our ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia course. This 2-hour course will provide you with core skills to begin incorporating basic regional anesthesia into your emergency medicine practice to enhance patient care. Learn forearm, femoral and lower extremity blocks.

 

OBJECTIVES:
After completion of the ultrasound guided regional anesthesia course, participants should be
able to meet the following objectives:
– Understand basic anatomy of nerves
– Radial nerve
– Ulnar nerve
– Median nerve
– Femoral nerve
– Posterior tibial nerve
– Demonstrate understanding of sensory distribution of nerves
– Radial nerve
– Ulnar nerve
– Median nerve
– Femoral nerve
– Posterior tibial nerve
– Demonstrate which nerve to block for particular pathology to ensure adequate analgesia
– Be able to correctly identify nerves on ultrasound
– Perform in-plane ultrasound needle guidance with adequate needle visualization
– Understand the pharmacology of local anesthetics and their respective safe doses
– Be able to properly consent patients understanding the risks/benefits of regional anesthesia,
understanding potential complications of regional anesthesia
– Understand the contraindications to performing regional anesthesia
– Demonstrate appropriate technique in preparation of performing block
– Understand when to discuss patient care with consultant service and appropriateness for
regional anesthesia

 

Participant cost:  $125.00 per session (maximum 3 participants)


Cancellation Policy:
There are a limited number of spots for each course, and it can be difficult to find participants to fill spots that open up due to cancellation.  In light of this, cancellations greater than 2 weeks from the course date will receive a FULL refund, minus $25 administration fee.  Cancellations with 1-2 weeks of the course date will receive a 50% refund, and there are no refunds for cancellations less than 1-week from the course date. Participants who have registered may transfer their registration to another person, but this responsibility lies with the original participant.

 

Continuing Medical Education Credits: 

CFPC MAINPRO 1
This event meets the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and is approved by the Division of Continuing Professional Development, University of Manitoba for a maximum of 2.0 Mainpro-M1 credits.  Participants should only claim credit for the actual number of hours attended.

RCPSC Maintenance of Certification Section 1
This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the Division of Continuing Professional Development, University of Manitoba for a maximum of 2.0 credits.  Participants should only claim credit for the actual number of hours attended.
