Designing Active Learning for the Classroom – April 30, 2025 (Chown A207A&B)
Active learning is a broad term representing various ways that instructors can enhance student learning by making students active participants in their own learning. In medical education, active learning is valued, as it can facilitate the development of important skills, such as team work, critical thinking/clinical reasoning, and communication. In this workshop, we’ll focus on active learning strategies that instructors can use in the classroom.
Learning objectives:
- Define active learning
- Identify benefits of active learning
- Apply active learning strategies in the body, set, and closure of a curriculum
- Discuss some common challenges in implementing active learning
