Description

Removable prosthodontics is now evolving to utilize new technologies that allow digital fabrication of complete and partial dentures.  Where the classic analogue impression has been the longstanding gold standard in replicating intraoral tissues, digital scanning now enables an improved process of denture design and fabrication.

This course provides an overview of the digital workflow necessary to simplify complete denture fabrication by utilizing CAD-CAM technology to design and deliver esthetically pleasing and well-functioning dentures in fewer appointments as compared to conventional denture fabrication.

A review of classic denture fabrication processes will assist dentists in moving to digital technologies that provide greater efficiencies and enhance the quality of dentures. This course will review current principles of removable prosthesis fabrication, including how to achieve proper final impressions and jaw-relation records, and apply these principles to develop digital workflows that will enhance and improve the delivery of this treatment option.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the foundational principles in removable prosthodontics
  • Understand the application of removable prosthodontic principles to digital workflows in design and fabrication of complete dentures
  • Understand the importance of taking accurate records that include digital scanning and jaw-relation records
  • Describe the advantages and limitations of digital design and fabrication of complete dentures
