Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: I Didn’t Know What to Say Addressing Microaggressions in the Classroom – March 23, 2023 (Zoom)
Addressing micro-aggressions is important for our learners and ultimately for our patients. In this session we will explore strategies and propose language to assist teachers with addressing micro-aggressions in classroom and/or tutorial settings. Using the micro-aggressions triangle model, participants will discuss how to address micro-aggressions in the moment.
Learning objectives:
- Recognize instances of racism, discrimination and microaggressions occurring in our educational spaces.
- Identify and share concepts associated with racism, discrimination and microaggressions so that we can speak a common language.
- Practice communication tools and share ways to respond.
Facilitators:
Dr. Joanne Hamilton, Office of Innovation and Scholarship in Medical Education, Maxy Rady College of Medicine
Ms. Valerie Williams, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences
Zoom link and any handouts will be sent to attendees prior to the workshop.
