Evaluating Scientific Bibliometrics – May 14, 2018 – Research Development
Description:
Research metrics have expanded from journal-level impact factors to a variety of other measures such the h-index to help researchers identify quality scholarly research, inform publication decisions, and assess research-related outputs. This workshop will include an overview of different metrics and library-supported tools, including Scopus and SciVal, that enable researchers to protect their scholarly identity, consolidate research activities, and accurately report individual indices.

Andrea Szwajcer – Research Services Librarian/Associate Librarian
Over her 14 years or so with the University of Manitoba Libraries, Andrea Szwajcer MLIS, AHIP, has held various librarian positions. She begun as Education Services Librarian at the Neil John Maclean Library and was a librarian at the former Carolyn Sifton-Helene Fuld Library serving St. Boniface Hospital, WRHA and University members. As of February 2018, she is now the Research Services Librarian located at the main campus of the University of Manitoba. Andrea’s main role, with Open Science principles as her guide, is to assist librarians, faculty and graduate students in meeting their individual, institutional and regulatory requirements and responsibilities as they relate to data management and scholarly communication.
Janet Rothney –
Janet Rothney is the liaison for the College of Dentistry and School of Dental Hygiene, part of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. Based out of the Neil John Maclean Health Sciences Library on the Bannatyne Campus, she frequently works with members of the RFHS community. As part of her role, she helps to addresses the research data management, open access and scholarly communications needs that arise on the Bannatyne Campus.
