Simulation as a teaching pedagogy is becoming commonplace in health professions education.  In order to make the most of this teaching strategy, educators need to have an understanding of how to facilitate in this learning environment.  What kind of preparation do the learners need? What should I include in the prebriefing? How does the level of the participant affect how much preparation I provide?  These are common questions that both new and experienced simulation educators may have, and will be discussed in this session.

Objectives for this session:

  • Identify the phases of the simulation learning experience
  • Explain the purpose of preparation materials in simulation-based learning
  • Outline techniques that may be used in the prebriefing phase of simulation-based learning
  • Discuss how the level of the participant affects the preparation and prebriefing phase of simulation-based learning
