Geriatric Oncology Day March 9 2018
Description:
The Underserved Population Program within Community Oncology at CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) will offer a one day educational program on Geriatric Oncology Principles. The clinical components will be led by Dr. David Dawe, CCMB Medical Oncologist.
With the population increasingly aging, the cancer burden amongst older adults is growing rapidly. Older patients with cancer have unique needs that are not present in younger patients. Oncologists will need to incorporate geriatric assessments and principles into daily practice in all oncology fields. Establishing a community of practice amongst all Manitoba clinicians who treat older patients with cancer will increasingly become an important component of care.
Target Audience:
The target audience of the education program is provincial healthcare providers who treat patients with cancer. This will include physicians in the following specialties: Medical, Radiation and Surgical Oncology, Hematology, Geriatrics, Primary Care and Family Physicians in Oncology. Interdisciplinary team members such as nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, psychosocial oncology clinicians, and educators are also a part of the target audience.
