We are pleased to provide you the following information about the upcoming High Performance Physician (HPP) course that you will be participating in. HPP is offered through the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Manitoba. It was designed to help equip medical professionals with practical tools to enhance individual and team performance, personal resilience, and wellbeing. Issues relating to physician burnout and human factors, which can impair situational judgment and decision-making, have been demonstrated in medical research. Physicians are often tasked with performing high stakes interventions under conditions of cognitive overload, fatigue, and time pressures. Add to that, the unrelenting stream of administrative demands and expectations that are to be managed each day. These conditions pose a challenge towards long-term sustainable health and performance.
Through the HPP course, you will learn cutting edge strategies on how to deal with these inherent stressors more effectively. Course content is evidence based, rooted in the sciences of peak human performance, neuroscience, professional learning, and includes best practices in leadership development, communication, and stress management. Since its inception in 2007, HPP has been delivered to hundreds of physicians at all levels of experience and across numerous areas of specialization.
This course is divided into 4 distinct modules comprised of the following themes:
I. Nurturing a performance mindset
Developing trust and confidence
