Small Group Teaching Workshop Series: Managing Time and Responding to Challenges – November 7, 2023 (Zoom)
Small group teaching is used regularly in medical education. As a way to promote active learning and engagement, small groups can engender learning outcomes and foster community building for students. Using teaching strategies specific to small group contexts can help to maximize their effectiveness. In this series of workshops, we will cover a number of teaching strategies that can be applied in small group settings and will also discuss how to manage some common challenges that can arise in a small group context.
Although participants are encouraged to attend all three workshops, workshops can be taken individually.
After completing the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Apply strategies for managing time in small group teaching
- Proactively identify possible disruptions in the small group and plan for them, and
- Respond to disruptions and/or challenges that occur during the session
Facilitator: Dr. Chelsea Jalloh, Educational Specialist, Office of Innovation and Scholarship in Medical Education
Zoom link and any handouts will be sent to attendees prior to the workshop.
