2023 Manitoba Neuroscience Network Scientific Meeting
The Manitoba Neuroscience Network (MNN) held its first Annual Scientific Meeting in 2010 to bring together researchers, clinicians, trainees, community stakeholders and affiliated supporters of neuroscience in the province of Manitoba. Since then, this meeting has grown to approximately 150-200 attendees. It has been 3-years since the last MNN Scientific Meeting, and it is our great pleasure to be once again holding the event back in-person! The 2023 MNN Scientific Meeting will take place at The Leaf, a beautiful new space within Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg, on June 23, 2023.
This year’s meeting aims to reconnect the Manitoba neuroscience community and showcase the remarkable neuroscience research taking place across this province. This meeting will highlight the diversity of neuroscience research taking place in our own backyard, from synaptic plasticity to spinal cord repair, from neurogenetics to animal models of the brain and behaviour. Unique this year, trainees at the graduate and postdoctoral levels with have the opportunity to present both posters and oral presentations. This will be accompanied by faculty talks and a dedicated trainee poster session sponsored by the Stem Cell Network. With multiple opportunities for networking, not to mention our Evening Social, the 2023 MNN Scientific Meeting is sure to excite your neurons!

Abstract Submission (OPEN: April 1 to May 15)
Abstract submission is required in order to present a Poster during the afternoon poster session or be considered for a Trainee Oral Presentation (12-min talk) as part of one of the talk sessions. Selection of Trainee Oral Presentations will be performed by the 2023 MNN Scientific Meeting Organizing Committee to ensure representation across the three talk session themes of the meeting. If you are selected for an Oral Presentation, you will not present a poster. During completion of Abstract Submission, you will be asked whether you would like to be considered for a Trainee Oral Presentation. Please note that there are a limited number of spots available for these talks. Any trainees selected for an Oral Presentation will be notified the last week of May, once Abstract Submission closes.

The Guidelines for Poster Presentations/Oral Presentations
Poster Presentations:
You will be provided with a maximum surface area of 3.75′ x 3.75′ (114 cm x 114 cm) to display your poster. Posters can not exceed this size. Push pins will be provided for you to affix your poster to the display board.
• You may hand out information sheets to those viewing your poster.
• Poster material must be prepared in advance and should be large enough to be viewed from a distance of approximately 3′ (1 m) or more.
• Each poster must have a top label indicating the title of the paper, the names of the authors and their affiliations. The size of the characters for
the title should be at least one inch high.
• Please indicate the poster number in the top left corner of your poster (you will receive your poster number when your poster is accepted)
• Keep illustrative material simple. Charts, drawings and illustrations may be similar to those used in making slides – preferably with bolder, heavier figures.
• “Introduction” and “Conclusion” sections are usually helpful.
• When feasible, use graphs for demonstrating qualitative relationships, tables of precise numerical values.
• If used, photographs should be in a matte finish, not glossy.
• Do not fold posters; roll and carry them in an appropriate container.
• Posters will be judged by 1-2 judges during the Poster Session. As such, the presenting author is expected to be near their poster for the majority of the Poster Session.
• Posters setup should be completed before 10:30am. Meeting staff will be present to assist you during the poster set up times.
• Removal and collection of posters should be done immediately at the end of the display period (4:00pm) and is the responsibility of the author(s). Posters not removed by the indicated take down time will be removed and disposed of by meeting staff.
Oral Presentations:
All Oral Presentations will be a total of 15-min in length (12-min talk + 3-min questions). Presentations should be prepared in Power Point or a similar program, and uploaded on the session laptop ahead of the appropriate Talk Session (I, II, or III). Any animations or videos should be checked ahead of time on the session laptop, and is the responsibility of the presenter. A microphone, podium, and laser pointer will be available during talks. The Chair of the specific Talk Session will be in contact with all individuals selected for Oral Presentations to provide further detail closer to the meeting date.
