Description
In order to address the unique clinical characteristics of each community, the Community Based CPD Program is offered in locations throughout Manitoba*: Morden/Winkler and Thompson. A community physician for each location is appointed as program chair . These physicians identify the learning needs of their colleagues and work with the University of Manitoba, CPD Medicine Department to organize these events.
Upcoming program topics may include:
PEDS: Neurology, Hypertension, ADHD, nephrology | Women’s Health: Breast Health, Cardiac, Gyno | Opioid Dependency, Suboxone prescribing| Dermatology Day | Trauma Day | Head/Neck | Cardiac Day
This program is of interest to rural primary care providers, interprofessional teams and residents.
The Community Based Program is supported by an unrestricted education grant from the MB Healthcare Providers Network.
Objectives
At the end of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Apply diagnosis and management strategies to a variety of medical conditions that are relevant to primary care practice. (Medical Expert)
- Evaluate the literature that is presented on timely research and guidelines that support evidence-based medicine. (Scholar)
- Communicate best practices on a range of timely and challenging topics with patients and their families. (Communicator
- Recognize barriers to change and apply innovative strategies to overcome these barriers. (Medical Expert, Health Advocate, Communicator)
- Identify and address topic-relevant societal needs using principles of inclusivity and equity. (Health Advocate, Professional)
- Identify clinical scenarios that require team-based or collaborative care. (Collaborator)

Registration
This program series offers 7 sessions on the following dates:
November 9 and December 7, 2023. January 11, February 8, March 7, April 11 & May 9 2024.
Physician Annual Fee – $895.00
Allied Health Professional Annual Fee – $375.00
Physician Single Session Fee – $175.00
Allied Health Professional Single Session Fee – $75.00
Resident/Student Single Session Fee – $30.00
These sessions will be presented in a format consistent with UM policies and Public Health regulations as determined closer to session date. Connection details will be emailed to registered participants 24 hours prior to each event date for online delivery.
As Per CPD Medicine policy, the department requires any refund or cancelation request to be submitted in writing up to fourteen (14) days prior to the program or session start date . A $50 administrative fee will be withheld to cover transaction and administrative costs. Refund or cancelation requests made less than fourteen (14) days notice may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Credits
This one-credit-per-hour Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been approved by the CPD Medicine Program, University of Manitoba for up to 4.0 Mainpro+ credits.
This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the CPD Medicine Program, University of Manitoba for a maximum of 4.0 hours.
Participants should only claim credit for the actual number of hours attended.
The University of Manitoba CPD Medicine Program is fully accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education (CACME).
