Online: Developing Learning Objectives
This self-directed, self-paced module provides essential information for CPD planning committee members and educators. Learn to develop objectives for educational sessions that address higher levels of learning. The module focuses on the domains of learning, Bloom’s Taxonomy, elements of objectives, and appropriate verbs to use when writing objectives. Objectives clearly and concisely communicate what the learner is expected to know and/or do upon conclusion of a learning activity. Objectives may be called behavioural objectives, learning objectives, performance objectives, or just plain objectives as essentially all of these terms are used interchangeably.
Planning committees develop objectives based on the needs of the learners and the overall performance expected of learners upon completion of a learning activity. Objectives must be included in program brochures so that participants may evaluate the relevance of attending a continuing professional development (CPD) activity. In post-CPD activity evaluations, participants are asked to evaluate the extent to which objectives were met.
