Goals & Objectives
Ultrasound
- Develop an understanding of basic ultrasound physics and artifacts
- Develop an understanding of screen orientation, image acquisition and interpretation
- Develop an understanding of limitations of POCUS including gestational age measurements, determining definite intrauterine pregnancy, and when to seek help from diagnostic imaging by radiology
Obstetrical/Gynecological
- Develop an understanding of diagnosis and management of early intrauterine pregnancy loss
- Develop an understanding of how ultrasound can be helpful and potentially harmful in medication abortion management
Format:
Pre-reading material will be available two weeks prior to the hands-on session that will cover introductory ultrasound machine and physics principles, early pregnancy loss management, and ultrasound in medication abortion.
The hands-on session will focus on image acquisition and the incorporation of ultrasound findings into clinical management.
Cost & Registration
Registration will cost $100 and will include ongoing access to online resources for up to 3 months after the training session.
Location:
The Point of Care Ultrasound in the first trimester of pregnancy is delivered at the University of Manitoba’s Clinical Learning and Simulation Facility, located at 205 Brodie – 727 McDermot Avenue.
CME Credits: There will not be formal CME credits available for participation, but you should be able to use non-accredited time for 2 hours of a 4-hour training program.
Cancellation Policy
The course is resource intensive with a limited number of spots for each course. In light of this, cancellations greater than 4 weeks from the course date will receive a FULL refund, minus $50 administration fee.
Cancellations with less than 2 weeks of the course date will receive a 50% refund, and there are no refunds for cancellations less than 1 week from the course date. Participants who have registered may transfer their registration to another person, but this responsibility lies with the original participant. We will try to help find a replacement, but in the event, one cannot be found, participants WILL NOT receive a refund (if within 1 week of the course). The organizing committee reserves the right to cancel a course due to low enrollment or other circumstances that would make the event non-viable. If the courses cancelled, registrants will be offered a full refund or transfer registration to an alternative course.
