“Praxis” can be described as practice that is informed by theory, research, and reflection. This Praxis Series will feature speakers from the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences who have undertaken scholarship that has informed their own practice as educators. Speakers will share an overview of their scholarship and describe how this work has influenced their own pedagogies, practices, and processes. Presentations will be followed by a moderated Q&A to explore how this scholarship might apply more broadly to the field of health professions education.

This presentation will discuss the development and implementation of Indigenous Led Sharing Circles with Physiotherapy students on clinical placement. In reflecting on this project, Sarah described, “As an educator, this project has forever changed my practice as a clinical instructor. I learned that the vulnerability that we can show and share with students has incredible impact on their learning, coping, and professionalism. I also learned that storytelling can be a valuable tool in reflection and learning.” Please join us for this first Praxis presentation to learn more about this initiative and to discuss ways this work can apply to our own praxis as health professions educators.

Speaker: Sarah Conci, Instructor II and Coordinator of the Student-Led Interprofessional Neuro Clinic (SLIC-neuro), Department of Physical Therapy
