Programmatic Assessment – March 21, 2023 (Webinar)
Traditional summative approaches tend to be modular, typically relying heavily on a high stakes summative assessment at the end of a course. These approaches do not often assess how students develop over time, or the behavioral, and attitudinal components of professional practice. More contemporary approaches place learners and learning processes at the centre of assessment and incorporate a program of assessment activities. This workshop will provide an overview of programmatic assessment theory, principles, and practices; it will also provide strategies for incorporating it into curricula.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Identify the core principles and practices of programmatic assessment;
- Develop practical strategies for incorporating programmatic assessment into practice;
- Discuss the strengths and limits of programmatic assessment within their context.
Facilitator: Kathleen Legris, Educational Specialist, Office of Innovation and Scholarship in Medical Education
Zoom link and any handouts will be sent to attendees prior to the workshop.
