Small Group Teaching Workshop Series: Group Dynamics and Teachable Moments – January 26, 2023 (Zoom)
Small group teaching is used regularly in medical education. As a way to promote active learning and engagement, small groups can engender learning outcomes and foster community building for students. Using teaching strategies specific to small group contexts can help to maximize their effectiveness. In this series of workshops, we will cover a number of teaching strategies that can be applied in small group settings and will also discuss how to manage some common challenges that can arise in a small group context.
Although participants are encouraged to attend all three workshops, workshops can be taken individually.
After completing the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify considerations to create an engaging, safe, and participatory learning environment
- Explain group functioning and how it impacts small groups/tutorials, and
- Identify opportunities for teachable moments and capitalize on them
Facilitator: Dr. Chelsea Jalloh
Upcoming workshops in the series:
Fostering Discussion and Engagement – February 9, 2023 via Zoom
Managing Time and Responding to Challenges – February 23, 2023 via Zoom
Zoom link and any handouts will be sent to attendees prior to the workshop.
