Small Group Teaching Workshop Series: Fostering Discussion and Engagement – February 9, 2023 (Zoom)

Small group teaching is used regularly in medical education. As a way to promote active learning and engagement, small groups can engender learning outcomes and foster community building for students. Using teaching strategies specific to small group contexts can help to maximize their effectiveness. In this series of workshops, we will cover a number of teaching strategies that can be applied in small group settings and will also discuss how to manage some common challenges that can arise in a small group context.

Although participants are encouraged to attend all three workshops, workshops can be taken individually.

After completing the workshop, participants will be able to:  

• Effectively use questions to foster discussion
• Give meaningful in-the-moment feedback, and
• Identify and apply learning activities for small group teaching
