Storytelling for Academics: Enlivening Your Non-Fiction Writing with Sensory Detail and Emotional Resonance – October 19, 2023 (Zoom)
Alan Klass Program in Heath Humanities
Health professionals and scientists often want to reach a broader audience—whether through a feature article or op-ed, a blog, or a book, but you may not know where to start or how to break free from the conventions and constraints of scholarly writing in order to craft a more compelling narrative.
In this workshop, we will develop skills that we can bring to our non-fiction writing using the fiction writer’s toolbox. We will write in response to prompts that invite us to draw our readers into the story we want to tell about our work through sensory detail and emotional resonance. We will learn what is strong in our writing so we can lean into those abilities when we sit down to write our non-fiction piece, and we will learn from the strengths of other writers.
No creative or fiction writing experience required. Space is limited.
