We all want to connect with others, whether a single person or a full auditorium, and we want to communicate in an engaging and memorable way. Stories give us a vehicle through which to accomplish these goals; yet most of us don’t learn much about how to listen deeply to stories or how to craft compelling ones of our own. One way we can learn is by studying the work of master storytellers.

In this fun lunch hour session, we will read a short story together and discuss our observations, impressions, expectations, questions, and reactions. What emerges is a deeper, richer understanding of the story and discoveries about how the author crafted it.

Free of charge for all faculty, staff, and students in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. No literary experience needed. Space is limited.

Facilitator: Dr. Susan Wingert is a health sociologist, journal editor, writer, and creative writing workshop facilitator.
