Stem Cell Therapy and Dentistry

March 1, 2025          9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Livestream Online Only)

Description

This course will introduce participants to the basics of stem cell science and how it can be used to repair and renew dental tissues. We’ll cover the essential concepts of stem cell biology and explain how these special cells can both renew themselves and develop into different types of mature cells.

Over the years, significant advances have made it easier for scientists to guide both embryonic and adult stem cells in specific directions. To help participants understand the benefits and challenges of using stem cell technology in dentistry, we’ll start by reviewing how teeth naturally develop and how dental stem cells grow. This will provide the foundation for exploring new strategies to regenerate adult dental tissues, including the possibility of growing an entire tooth. The success of regenerative dentistry depends on three main factors: the quality of the scaffolds, growth factors, and stem cells used. Participants will learn about the challenges involved in using these tools to address tooth development issues, repair, and regeneration.

We’ll also discuss whether stem cells can help reverse tooth decay or even regrow teeth and explore the potential of stem cell dental implants. Lastly, we’ll look at some of the most promising research and projects in the field, while also considering ethical concerns and costs.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will have a better understanding of how stem cell technology is being used in modern dentistry and how it might revolutionize future tooth repair and regeneration.
