This course is designed as an introduction to Botox for dental assistants, hygienists, and other dental professionals. This course will provide a brief introduction to the use of Botulinum toxin in the dental setting, including its history, mechanism of action, and therapeutic applications. The indications, contraindications, and complications associated with Botox use will also be reviewed. This course will also provide a brief review of facial anatomy, an integral part of administering Botox, with mention of facial injection sites for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes. This course will also highlight best practices and tips for appropriate record keeping including the use of dental photography to track treatment progress over time. Finally, clinic set up and armamentarium as well as post-operative care will be discussed.
